  • "I know David J. Lunsford. He is a friend, has been a mentor, and is has served as a deacon at our church. He lives what he believes and what he writes. His book is an amazing examination of the role of the pastor, his calling, and his responsibility to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. I find this book to be very insightful, encouraging, and practical. If you are functioning in a pastoral role and feel the weight of responsibility as well as the pressures from those in need, you are not alone. I have transitioned from a youth pastor to a senior pastor role. In that transition the Lord has brought me to a place that I had to fly solo (although the Lord is with me). You find yourself with new challenges you may not have all the answers to. It is always a privilege to serve Christ and His church, but it was never labeled as "easy." This book is for you. If you carry in your heart the burning "aspirations" to preach, teach, and lead God's people, this book is for you. Filled with great illustrations, biblical exposition on great passages, and lots of theological application, if you just want to grow in your walk as a believer, this book is for you!"

  • "Wow. Such a great book. I started in ministry fresh out of college as a youth pastor. After 5 years, I stepped out of full time ministry but continued to serve as a lay leader in different roles from youth, deacon, and elder, and interim pastor. I wish I had this book 20 years ago. The points are well thought out and fully pulled from Scripture. The anecdotal illustrations tell some great stories of both what to do and what not do. This is a must read for anyone. that's right, you don't have to be a pastor to glean from this book! But if you are a pastor, it should be one of those books that you read every couple years as a check up on your own spiritual growth. As was once told to me while I was interning in college, your ministry grows to the extent that you do. So, continue the pattern of growth...and use great resources like this book!"

  • "With his relaxed and natural writing style, using humor and personal illustrations, Dave brings the Word of God to bear on the important issues of pastoral ministry that all in full-time service must deal with. Grounded in Scripture and lived experience, this book was refreshing and stimulating to me."
